Business Development Specialist

OpenCraft, a fully remote company, is seeking a Business Development/Sales Specialist with an engineering background to join our open-source software team. We're passionate about contributing to open-source and community causes, working on educational and community-based projects that impact learners worldwide.
As a remote-first company for over 10 years, we've perfected asynchronous, timezone-agnostic workflows. This role requires scheduling meetings with clients, primarily in US time zones.
We're a major contributor to the Open edX project, providing development and hosting for prestigious institutions like Harvard Medical School, Cloudera, and Autodesk. Our team of 30 senior software developers works in a collaborative, agile environment with a flat organizational structure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage client relationships and handle sales
- Schedule and conduct meetings with prospects
- Learn and speak authoritatively about our services
- Collaborate with our development team
Requirements:
- Experience in sales and customer account management
- Light software engineering background
- Ability to run projects locally using tools like Docker compose with WSL or Linux
- Basic familiarity with Git
- Ability to read code in at least one Turing-complete programming language (preferably Python and/or JS/TypeScript)
- Strong English communication skills (written and spoken)
- Comfortable with public speaking and presentations
- Ability to work in an asynchronous team environment
- Can-do attitude and attention to detail
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of education academia and industry, especially online learning and MOOCs
- Deep engineering experience, particularly if transitioning from engineering to sales
- Experience participating in collaborative online communities
- Blog post and/or copywriting experience
- Familiarity with project planning tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, GitLab)
- Proficiency with spreadsheet programs
